Electric Fireplace Shopping Tips: For Ladies Only

Every online marketer worth his or her salt should know a little something about who actually buys the products they sell. By who, I mean gender, age, income, etc.

While recently sifting through some electric fireplace sales data I discovered some interesting statistics I would like to share with you.

The highest percentage of people who by an electric fireplace are female (70%), you have some college (49%), you are 55-64 years young (44%), and 87% of you no longer have children living at home. (I can’t see you but I sense smiles all around me)

What really surprised me was the fact that 36% of you ladies earn between ,000 and ,000 a year. Why am I so surprised? Because my lovely wife of 37 years, who fits this profile to a T, bought a new BMW last week but claims she makes only ,500 a year. I’ve always wondered why she graciously volunteers every year to file our tax returns.

Finally, 70% of electric fireplace purchases are made by women – which isn’t surprising. I can’t ever remember being with the guys and hearing one of them say, “I don’t feel like watching the game today, I’d rather go shopping for an electric fireplace.”

I’ll be the first to admit I don’t know as much about romance as I should, but I do know something about electric fireplaces. So here’s a few electric fireplace shopping tips for ladies only.

1. Ninety five percent of electric fireplaces use the same 1,500 watt heater insert. This means the overall size of the mantel has no bearing on the amount of heat the fireplace will generate. A large corner unit won’t heat up a room any faster than a small Amish style fireplace.

Also relating to size is the confusing way fireplaces are sometimes described. For example; “Dimplex 28″ Electric Corner Fireplace” and you might be asking yourself – What does the 28 inches stand for?

The inches designation measures the width of the heating insert. Once again bigger isn’t better, but it’s a useful measurement for determining the size (width) of the faux flame display. In this case bigger is better.

One exception to the 95% rule mentioned above is the “Petite Foyer” mini fireplace. This style fireplace uses 3 candelabra bulbs as the heat source instead of an insert and generates no more than 1,300 watts. This isn’t a room size heater but its compact size lends itself well to unheated foyers and hallways.

2. Heavy is good. When my wife and I look for a new sofa she picks it out, and I pick it up – literally. Nothing tells me faster if it’s well made or not than by lifting it off the ground to feel the heft.

The same holds true for electric fireplaces. If you buy your electric fireplace online there’s only so much you can learn about its construction by looking at a picture. Instead, take note of the stated weight for any given model and compare it to other models of similar size. In general, weight is a good indicator of the quality of materials used in construction.

For instance, a mantel constructed with hardwood will weigh substantially more than one constructed of press board overlaid with veneer. The difference in materials is responsible for weight variations of up to 90 pounds between similar size mantels.

3. One thing I don’t have to tell you is how to shop. But I do know that models in the 0 and under range are always the first to go and sometimes remain out of stock until the following season.

Every new heating season brings with it a new collection of electric fireplace styles and another opportunity to add a little romance to your life – in between games.
